Historic Structure Reports
Historic structure reports are developed by aci consulting as a document for rehabilitation planning and for historic documentation. Archival research is conducted to establish the cultural and architectural development of the structure. The features that need to be retained to maintain the structure’s historic significance are identified. These features are usually called the, “character defining elements’. Condition assessments are conducted to establish the state of the structure such as building code issues and repair requirements.
National Register of Historic Places Evaluations
aci consulting has extensive experience in researching and developing nominations to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The NRHP is the Nation's official list of cultural resources worthy of preservation. Properties listed in the Register include districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects that are significant in American history, architecture, archeology, engineering, and culture. aci consulting staff has extensive experience in performing all types of NRHP evaluations.
Historic Contexts
aci consulting personnel has considerable experience in the development of historic contexts. All National Register nominations should be based upon an understanding of the historic context with which the nominated resource is related. Historic context refers to all of those historic circumstances and factors from which the property emerged. Knowledge of historic context permits us to understand the relative importance of the resource in question. Evaluating a property within its historic context ensures accuracy in understanding its role and in making comparisons among similar resources.
Utilizing the NRHP guidelines, aci consulting creates the historic context from a rigorous research approach that includes archival inquiry, map resources, oral histories and published documentation.
Section 106 Compliance
Where public funds are included in any historic project, it is subject to the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. If the action affects a historic property, the government agency involved must consult with the State Historic Preservation Office under the Section 106 Review Process.
aci consulting is well-equipped to provide advice or guide a client through the process. We work with clients to negotiate with the various agencies, seek letters of concurrence and enable the requisite mitigation to meet schedules and budgets.
