CULTURAL RESOURCES
GIS/GPS
aci consulting has extensively used Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Computer-aided Design (CAD) in assessing cultural resources. aci consulting utilizes the latest versions of ArcGIS, ArcView, and AutoCAD. Additionally, we can read all other formats (such as MapInfo, ERDAS Imagine, GRASS, and Microstation).
aci consulting staff have used these technologies for its basic mapping resources in addition to many higher-level analyses. These include remote sensing and image analysis to locate previously unknown archaeological sites on the British Army base near Stonehenge: Salisbury Plain Training Area. The three-dimensional capabilities of GIS have been utilized to assess potential viewshed issues with new cell phone towers. Results of Phase I and Phase II archaeological investigations have been used in ArcView’s Spatial Analyst to formulate a useful predictive modeling strategy.
Remote sensing applications used by aci consulting staff include metal detectors and ground resistivity. These technologies have been useful in locating burials and cultural features such as hearths, living surfaces, and foundations.
